Super Stimulated-Echo Preparation for Hyperpolarized 13C Metabolic Imaging

چکیده
Introduction: The stimulated-echo (STE) can be used to provide high sensitivity to diffusion and flow (1). We have recently applied a STE acquisition mode (STEAM) to hyperpolarized [1-C]pyruvate metabolic imaging and found improved tumor contrast (2). The STE distinguishes whether [1-C]pyruvate is converted to [1-C]lactate within the tissue or whether the [1-C]lactate was produced elsewhere and flowed into the tissue, which can confound metabolic data interpretation. However, the STEAM suffered from an inherent 50% SNR loss as well as motion artifacts during the 8 sec 3D EPSI spectroscopic acquisition. To address these problems, we propose a super stimulated-echo (3-5) magnetization preparation scheme for improved SNR and reduced motion artifacts.

Multiband excitation pulses for hyperpolarized 13C dynamic chemical-shift imaging.
Hyperpolarized 13C offers high signal-to-noise ratios for imaging metabolic activity in vivo, but care must be taken when designing pulse sequences because the magnetization cannot be recovered once it has decayed. It has a short lifetime, on the order of minutes, and gets used up by each RF excitation. In this paper, we present a new dynamic chemical-shift imaging method that uses specialized ...

Background Cardiac metabolic imaging based on hyperpolarized 13C-labeled pyruvate shows great potential for assessing the metabolic changes that the heart undergoes during ischemia [1]. Rodent animal models offer unique opportunities to study ischemic processes, however, methods based on spectral-spatial excitation [2] of the individual metabolites is challenging due to the large minimal slice ...
متن کامل3D cardiac Chemical Shift Imaging of [1-13C] hyperpolarized acetate and pyruvate in pigs
Background 13C Dynamic Nuclear Polarization (DNP) with rapid dissolution together with Magnetic Resonance Chemical Shift Imaging (CSI) have been used for non-invasive real-time metabolic assessment in cardiac experimental models on a clinical 3T scanner. Here, we report an in vivo comparison of hyperpolarized [1-13C] pyruvate and [1-13C] acetate perfusion and metabolism: a method based on a 3D ...
متن کاملStimulated-Echo Contrast with Hyperpolarized [1-C]-Pyruvate
Introduction: A stimulated-echo sequence with high sensitivity to diffusion and flow is shown here to provide a valuable contrast mechanism for hyperpolarized C metabolic imaging (1-4). This mechanism can highlight stationary metabolites, while suppressing signal from flowing metabolites. This helps to distinguish whether C-pyruvate is converted to Clactate within the tissue or whether the C-la...

RATIONALE Altered cardiac energetics is known to play an important role in the progression toward heart failure. A noninvasive method for imaging metabolic markers that could be used in longitudinal studies would be useful for understanding therapeutic approaches that target metabolism. OBJECTIVE To demonstrate the first hyperpolarized 13C metabolic magnetic resonance imaging of the human hea...
